An elementary school in Detroit has closed, pending an investigation into a flurry of flu-like illnesses that include fevers and vomiting. One child has also died, although the medical examiner has yet to connect the death to the illnesses.
School officials issued a statement, saying, “We have been actively communicating with the Detroit Health Department about these cases and we have mutually agreed that the best course of action right now is to close the school until Monday to allow families to monitor their children’s symptoms and to deep clean the school.” Meanwhile, the Health Department is sending a team to the school to assist with, “evaluation, monitoring review of protocols for deep cleaning and disinfecting” of the school.
