RFK promises to find the cause of the Autism epidemic
On April 10, 2025, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a major federal initiative to investigate the causes of rising autism rates, which he termed an “autism epidemic.” Speaking at a Cabinet meeting alongside President Donald Trump, Kennedy stated that, “We’ve launched a massive testing and research effort that’s going to involve hundreds of scientists from around the World. By September we will know what has caused the Autism epidemic and we’ll be able to elimate those exposures.” He highlighted the increase in autism diagnoses, noting the CDC’s current estimate of 1 in 31 children affected, compared to 1 in 10,000 decades ago.
President Trump suggested an “artificial” factor might be responsible, possibly tied to diet or medical interventions. Kennedy, previously criticized for questioning vaccine safety, clarified he supports vaccinations but seeks more rigorous safety studies.
