Study: Long-Term Pain Post-Heart Attack May Be an Earlier Death Signal

If you’re a senior citizen going into the hospital and you take marijuana, you have a higher risk of having a stroke, heart attack or heart failure, according to a new study.

Specifically, “people who use marijuana daily were 34% more likely to develop heart failure,” CNN reported. The study is not published but was presented at a recent meeting of the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in Philadelphia.

CNN added this quote from Robert Page II, chair of the volunteer writing group for the 2020 Heart Association’s statement on marijuana: “You need to treat this just like you would any other risk factor (for heart disease and stroke), and honestly understand the risks that you were taking …

… The association advises against smoking or vaping cannabis in any form.”
