Listeria Contamination Triggers Urgent Ice Cream Recall

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued its most severe warning, a Class I recall, for 6,344 bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips sold in Oregon and Washington due to the presence of undeclared milk. This alert warns that the chips could pose serious health risks, including death, for individuals with milk allergies or severe sensitivity. The initial recall, announced last month by Frito-Lay, has escalated following further review by the FDA.

The recalled chips are identified by a “guaranteed fresh” date of February 11, 2025, and include specific manufacturing codes. While no other Lay’s products are currently affected, consumers in the impacted states are advised to check their products for these identifiers. The FDA categorizes this recall as Class I, indicating a reasonable probability that exposure to the violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

Despite the severity of the recall, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the product to date. This recall comes at a time when the FDA has limited its public communications following a government directive, focusing its efforts on addressing urgent health risks and ensuring consumer safety.
