In an unprecedented assault against the U.S. First Amendment, the Federal Trade Commission demanded that Elon Musk turn over all the communications and names of journalists who were granted access to Twitter’s company records.
The FTC purportedly is investing Musk’s massive Twitter layoffs. Spurred by Democrat Lina Khan, the agency is also trying to depose Musk in connection with the probe, The Wall Street Journal reported.
In a terse tweet on the action, former Senate investigator Paul D. Thacker accused The New York Times of playing politics with the revelation. “The entire world would be panicking if the president was a Republican, but this is a Democratic administration, so the NY Times will ignore this,” Thacker said.
In his own tweet, Musk responded, “This is a serious attack on the Constitution by a federal agency.”
