Could Your Gut Problems Be Linked to This?

Some popular ingredients in processed foods may be doing more harm than good. Emulsifiers like polysorbate 80, carrageenan, and maltodextrin help improve texture and shelf life in products like ice cream and salad dressing. But new research shows these additives might disrupt the gut, cause inflammation, and raise the risk of diseases like Crohn’s, cancer, and heart problems.

Some people with gut issues say avoiding these ingredients has helped more than medication. One man with severe bowel disease saw major relief after cutting out emulsifiers. Doctors agree that more human research is needed, but early studies suggest a real link between these chemicals and health problems.

Experts say the FDA needs to update its food safety rules, which don’t fully consider how these ingredients affect the gut over time. Until more is known, skipping products with added emulsifiers may help protect your health.
