Around two million baked goods, including doughnuts and coffee rolls sold at Dunkin’, have been recalled due to potential Listeria contamination. The recall was first announced on January 7 by FGF Brands, the company that distributes these items in the U.S. and Canada, and it was recently updated to a more serious level by the FDA. While the risk of severe illness is low, the contamination could still cause temporary health issues.
The products involved were made before December 13, 2024, and include several types of doughnuts and pastries. FGF Brands has clarified that their testing didn’t find Listeria on the doughnuts or equipment but initiated the recall to be extra cautious. They also confirmed that all affected products have been removed from the market as of early January.
Listeria infections are rare but can be very serious, especially for people with weakened immune systems, older adults, newborns, and pregnant women. Although most people who are exposed don’t get sick, the bacteria can cause severe health issues like fever and headaches, and in some cases, it can be deadly. Every year in the U.S., about 1,600 people get sick from Listeria, and about 260 die. The recall is a preventative step to ensure these numbers don’t rise.
