    Being active just on weekends might be just as beneficial for your health as spreading exercise throughout the week, according to recent research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association. The study found that getting at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise each week can significantly lower your risk of death from diseases like heart problems and cancer, whether that exercise is done in one go or over several days.

    The research analyzed activity data from over 93,000 people, using movement-tracking devices that provide more accurate data than self-reported activity logs. Both “weekend warriors” and regular exercisers showed much lower risks of death compared to those who were less active. This indicates that the total amount of physical activity matters more than how often you do it.

    However, fitting all your exercise into the weekend can increase the risk of injury. To reduce this risk, it’s important to warm up properly and gradually increase activity levels. This study supports the idea that fitting exercise into a busy schedule can still provide major health benefits, offering a flexible approach to staying healthy. Future research will look to confirm these findings across different groups and consider other factors that might affect health outcomes.
